It was only a CUB Group that was set up again as this was the most popular age group at the time. They set up again in Hewetson School. Walter Byran later became 5th Kildare Clane’s Group Leader. The CUB pack is still running.
Two years later, the first 5th Kildare Clane Beaver section was set up in 1981. This was the work of Vera O’Sullivan, Jenny Shaw and Linda Southgate. They ran the BEAVER section for a number of years. The BEAVER section is still running. It now has two BEAVER teams. These are known as Ceadaoin BEAVERS and Thursday BEAVERS. One of the BEAVER team has been in 5th Kildare Clane Group for over 25 years.
The 5th Kildare Clane SCOUT troop was started in 1991. This was run by Tarlach O’hUid and Niamh Dunne. Tarlach O’hUid passed away in 1992, a year after starting up the SCOUT troop. The SCOUT troop is still running and is getting bigger each year.
5th Kildare Clane VENTURE section started in 1995. This was run by Ray Creighton for two years. Ray Creighton became ill and couldn’t continue to run the VENTURE section. It was closed as there was no one to take over from Ray Creighton.
The VENTURE section was restarted again. In 2004, Emma Ryan restarted the section. Emma Ryan used to be a scout in 5th Kildare Clane. She was helped by Colin Lowry and Chris Carrugo. The VENTURE section is still going strong.
5th Kildare Clane Group used Hewetson School from 1965 to 2009. Hewetson School had to do repairs to their hall and 5th Kildare Clane Group moved to Millicent Parish Hall. This is still the group’s Den. The Group made a sign to put outside the Den. It is handmade from multicolored beans. All sections of the Group helped in some way to make this sign. It has our Group Crest on it.
Each section of 5th Kildare Clane Group organises different activities for their own section. These are activities like hill walking, camps, outings, canoeing & day trips. Den nights are used to plan, to do badge work, to have cooking nights, play games and other activities. The Group has a Group Camp each year. This year we went back to Hewetson School for Group Camp.
After Rovers were formed as a group age in Scouting Ireland, the first 5th Kildare Rover section was founded at the AGM in August 2010, Jane Carey was the first Crew Leader . The rover age was 18-21. In April 2011, after intense and successful campaigning, delegates from Rover section brought a motion to the National Council to extend the Rover age to 25, and that motion was carried. The Rover section had years when it was big and worked on their own and years when it was smaller and worked together with the Venture Section.
