Cubs camped for 3 nights in the ground of Srahan Scout Centre, Camross, Co Laois over the May bank Holiday Weekend. The weather was mixed. We had some rain showers, some quite heavy, others not so heavy. The site was elevated so we had a continuous breeze which at times could be very chilly. A fun packed weekend along with lots of badge work was achieved. On Friday night, once tents were up and dinner finished, and Alison’s birthday cake shared, a game of “Capture the Flag” was played in the dark.
Saturday was a busy day once breakfast was finished. After our flag ceremony there was a short hike to a nearby forest where some cubs built a shelter while others gathered various types of wood for our campfire night. After lunch cubs worked on their backwoods skills. Sat night was movie night so everyone was indoors for an hour or two. All went to bed tired but happy.
Sunday was another fun filled day with a trip to Roscrea Leisure Centre where cubs enjoyed the thrill of their waterslide. A surprise and unplanned trip to a fast food outlet was a treat for all. The rest of the day was again filled with badge work and activities. Alison cooked her Sweet Potato & Chorizo Soup she had perfected for her CSA. This was to keep us going till dinner time. All the cubs enjoyed some time on the obstacle course across the road from the Scout Centre. Liam’s curry, which he had perfected for his CSA, was on the menu for Sunday dinner along with rice. Liam and his team prepared and cooked the curry which the group thoroughly enjoyed. Campfire took place later on Sunday evening under the shelter to the rear of the Scout Centre. There were lots of songs sung, some new, some old favorites. There were smores cooked before everyone went to bed very tired.
Monday morning was busy taking down tents and breaking site once breakfast was over. We had our closing ceremony where badges and beads were presented. A fantastic weekend of activities and badge work. We will be back.
